DESIRE as starting point to SUCCESS
“Desire as a starting point of all achievement. The first step towards wealth.” This is how Napoleon Hill begins his exhibition about Desire in his masterpiece Think and Grow Rich.
A well defined desire
It is the well-defined and ardent desire that brings us closer to success. The desire that endures with the flame of the first day increases the chances that it will come true. This is applicable to any facet of life. Choosing a defined objective and using all the energy and all the effort to achieve this goal, will do you to finally win. Of course, you must be willing to give up certain things if your desire is burning enough.
How to know if your desire is intense enough to win?
On one occasion, a Socrates disciple asked him: “How can I have more knowledge?” He asked him to accompany him and they walked until they reached the sea. Once they entered the sea, Socrates immersed him in the water and the disciple began to spot and fight to get out because he was drowning. After a few seconds, once he left, Socrates asked him: “When you were in the water, what did you most desire?” He replied: “I wanted to breathe, I wanted air.” Socrates told him: “to have the knowledge you want, you must desire it as much as you wanted the air below the water.” Think about this story when you doubt whether your desire is intense enough to lead you to victory, to achieve your achievements. Do not forget to think about desire as a start point of all achievement in your life.
About desire and failure
A well-defined desire does not admit failure. There may be certain defeats in the battle, but the final victory will be yours thanks to the permanent, obsessive and burning desire. A definite desire means to be concrete in your purpose and to desire it ardently. These two characteristics are key to reaching the goal. The small failures, which will exist, will bring with them the seed of an equivalent success. Thomas Edison failed more than one hundred thousand times. Practical dreamers do not give up! Engrave in your mind that “nobody is ever defeated until defeat is accepted as a reality.”
Are you ready to apply desire as a starting point of all achievement in your life?
No one is ready for something until they believe they can acquire it. The winner’s state of mind is a state of conviction and not mere hope or desire. A closed mentality does not inspire faith, courage or conviction. Remember that our only limitations are those that we impose on our own mind. And do not forget that faith supports desire, and thanks to this synergy we are able to keep trying even though we fall. Nothing is impossible for the person who supports his desire with lasting faith. There is nothing, whether good or bad, that a belief along with a burning desire cannot realize.
Finally, referring to Napoleon Hill’s book entitled Think and Grow Rich, on which this article is based, I want to say that “through some strange and powerful principle of ‘mental chemistry’ that has never come to light, nature involves in the impulse of an intense desire ‘that something’ that does not admit the word impossible and does not accept failure as a reality. “
